Brief given to recontextualize / reorganize ALL of the pieces of the original deconstructed object into a new, giftable 3D composition that gives the pieces new life and new value.
My concept began with the calculator. I had this idea- to take something which is very linear and functionally ‘useful’ and transform it into something very abstract and expressive which has no practical physical purpose.
I used the original object as the key inspiration for my concepts, the two main elements being the color (black) and the linework (the circuit board).
The style of working is highly influenced by Louise Nevelson
I wanted to use my influences and inspirations and put my own twist on it.
I believe in keeping true to myself and my own artistic aesthetic which i have managed to achieve through the added component of my illustrations and the organic sort of flow which is conveyed through the composition.
The circuit board inspired element is almost ironic in a way since the final piece i have created has no physical purpose or function which is the primary use of a circuit board. I liked this sort of irony and the way it adced deeper meaning to my piece i am very much invested in the concepts behind this final piece and the idea that if exists as a piece of aesthetically relevant art rather than a functional sort of ‘object’.
